As a Product Design Engineer on the Electromyography (EMG) HW Platforms NTI team, you will be instrumental in designing, building, and testing prototype mechanical systems for future consumer experiences within Facebook’s Family of Products. This role involves fast iterative prototyping and collaboration with dynamic, cross-functional teams, including experts in electrical, optical, firmware, software, and research fields. We seek individuals who excel in teamwork, can translate broad definitions into mechanical designs, and can transition these designs into high-volume consumer products.The EMG HW Platforms Team at Meta Reality Labs is seeking a Product Design Engineer with a desire for working across the organization to develop technology and solve complex problems. In this role you will develop innovative EMG hardware platforms for new product experiences, working closely with cross-functional teams to integrate EMG sensors into wearable device products. You will work cross-functionally with teams that include PM, NPI teams, ID, health, NTI, firmware, software, neuroscientists, ML/AI experts and other research experts, to explore new technologies, develop proof-of-concepts, demonstrate feasibility of new EMG hardware platforms and drive these new platforms into various products. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing wearable devices, considering factors like materials, manufacturability, form/factor, and ergonomics, while working with a diverse team focused on advancing AR/VR experiences.
Product Design Engineer - NTI Responsibilities:
- Lead Mechanical Engineering workstreams for electromechanical sensor integration onto wearable hardware, ensuring all mechanical aspects of development, performance and reliability are met ensuring program success.
- Work across a full technology and product development cycle to deliver robust mechanical designs from concept to production.
- Partner with cross-functional researchers and engineers develop wearable architectures for AR/VR interaction.
- Engage with Contract Manufacturers and Joint Development Manufacturers to produce high-quality devices meeting yield and specification targets.
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or similar
- 2+ years of experience in 3D CAD modeling (NX, Creo, SolidWorks)
- 2+ years of advanced design or R&D experience with electromechanical sensors
- Demonstrated experience to apply first principles to complex technical problems
- Demonstrated experience with manufacturing techniques (machining, 3D printing, injection molding, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience with PCB/PCBA, FPC/FPCA design and integration
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience developing designs for wearable technologies including sensors, materials, and haptics
- 3+ years experience designing handheld and wearable electronics for high-volume manufacturing
- Demonstrated experience leading overseas suppliers in an ODM or JDM model
- Experience with Design of Experiments and Design for Six Sigma
- Experience with NX CAD
