Hardware Engineering is a diverse, innovative, and collaborative group of electrical, mechanical, reliability, software and vehicle engineers. We design, build, and perfect the products which are the eyes and ears of Waymo's autonomous driving technology, and integrate those products into vehicle platforms. We're seeking curious and talented teammates to keep us moving in the right direction.
In this hybrid role, you will report to a Hardware Engineering Manager.
You Will
- Develop and maintain accurate failure rate models for all self driving system hardware, monitor for failure rate excursions and develop custom tools to detect them
- Develop accurate material forecasts and maintenance cost models for all self driving system hardware
- Develop field hardware reliability reports based on detailed data analysis, and highlight key risks to leadership
- Apply leadership judgement to prioritize issues based on severity and business impact
- Lead the root cause and corrective action process for all self driving system hardware failures
- Lead the continuous improvement of our hardware reliability through regular lessons learned reviews, and updating all hardware FMEA's
You Have
- Bachelors Degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or Engineering
- 5+ years of Reliability and Quality analysis techniques (eg. Weibull, Nevada Charting, SPC, FMEA)
- Data analysis and reporting techniques (eg. JMP, Python, SQL, Tableau)
- Cross functional team leadership to resolve complex hardware quality and reliability issues
- Mechanics of materials and physics of failure of electronics and sensors
- 10+ years of product design, reliability, and quality experience
We Prefer
- Automotive reliability and autonomous vehicle reliability experience
- Experience in product development and launch of 3+ independent product categories
- High volume manufacturing experience
- MS or PhD Degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or Engineering
- 15+ years of product design, reliability, and quality experience
The expected base salary range for this full-time position is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Waymo employees are also eligible to participate in Waymo’s discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.
