Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo One, a fully autonomous ride-hailing service, and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over one million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving tens of millions of miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 13+ U.S. states.
The Perception Evaluation team at Waymo is at the forefront of autonomous driving, ensuring the reliability and safety of our self-driving technology. We develop and utilize cutting-edge tools and methodologies to rigorously assess the performance of our perception systems, a critical component for safe and effective autonomous operation. We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to act as Technical Lead of Perception Evaluation Triage. Join us to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of transportation by directly impacting the quality and trustworthiness of Waymo's autonomous vehicles.

This includes identifying pain points, defining requirements, and creating a seamless workflow for users, from the initial evaluation to the final triage results. This involves collaborating with UX designers and engineers.
- Develop and Execute the Perception Eval Triage Roadmap: You'll create a strategic roadmap for the evolution of Perception Eval triage. This roadmap should outline milestones, prioritize features, and align with the broader goals of the Perception Eval team, considering resource constraints and dependencies.
- Fund and Guide Engineering Efforts: You'll be responsible for allocating and coordinating engineering resources within the eval team to implement the roadmap. This involves mentoring engineers, providing technical guidance, and ensuring that projects are executed effectively, on time, and within budget.
- Drive Cross-Functional Collaboration: You'll need to work extensively with various teams, including triage tooling teams, ML infra, Waymo Infrastructure teams, and other Perception teams. This includes coordinating resources, resolving conflicts, and ensuring seamless integration of new features and workflows across different systems.
- Explore and Implement GenAI Solutions: You'll research and implement GenAI solutions to enhance and speed up the engineering work in eval triage. This involves building AI agents to automate tasks, surface problems faster and more accurately, and reduce engineering time.
- Ensure Milestone Delivery and Progress Tracking: You will be responsible to coordinate the work to make sure that the roadmap milestones are delivered, and track the progress of the projects, identifying and mitigating risks.
