Hardware Engineering is a diverse, innovative, and collaborative group of electrical, mechanical, reliability, software and vehicle engineers. We design, build, and perfect the products which are the eyes and ears of Waymo's self-driving systems, and integrate those products into vehicle platforms. We're seeking curious and talented teammates to keep us moving in the right direction.
You Will
- Act as the primary technical liaison between Waymo's internal R&D teams (Mechanical, Electrical, Test) and external vendors to translate design requirements into production-ready equipment.
- Work alongside automation specialists in the prototype phase and drive the subsequent copies with Asian vendors at EVT and beyond.
- Oversee the entire lifecycle of hardware projects, from prototype handoff to final deployment at scale.
- Travel to vendor and contract manufacturer sites in locations like China and Thailand to conduct and lead Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
- Drive projects to successful completion, ensuring equipment is delivered on time, within budget, and to Waymo's high-quality standards.
- Anticipate and resolve technical and logistical challenges by collaborating with cross-functional teams.
You Have
- A BS or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or a similar discipline, or an equivalent amount of practical experience.
- 5-10 years of senior-level project management experience, with a focus on managing hardware vendors in the APAC region.
- A strong background and proven track record in hardware engineering.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and concisely.
We Prefer
- Direct previous experience as an Automation Engineer.
- A high-level understanding of C# and Python.
- Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) and other engineering tools.
- Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems such as PDM or Enovia.
- Experience taking complex hardware products through manufacturing and into volume production.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar certification.
The expected base salary range for this full-time position is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Waymo employees are also eligible to participate in Waymo’s discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.
