Software Engineer
Location: Seattle, Washington (on-site, 5 days per week)
About the Role
We’re looking for a Software Engineer who thrives in fast-moving environments and wants to make a real impact at scale. This role is for someone early in their career (1–7 years of experience) who is motivated by solving hard problems, moving quickly, and building products that matter.
At OpenAI, you’ll be part of a team where ownership and execution speed are valued as highly as technical skill. If you want to shape the future of AI while working alongside world-class peers in a collaborative, hands-on environment, this is the place for you.
What You’ll Do
- Build and ship fast — design, code, and deliver features end-to-end in days or weeks, not months.
- Own projects — take full responsibility for problems and see them through, from idea to production.
- Collaborate cross-functionally — work closely with researchers, designers, and product managers to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Adapt and learn quickly — thrive in ambiguity, figure things out on the fly, and continuously improve.
- Contribute to culture — help build a high-agency, high-trust engineering environment where speed and quality coexist.
What We’re Looking For
- 1–7 years of experience in software engineering.
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, Go, Java, TypeScript, C++, or similar).
- Experience building and shipping real products — bonus if in fast-paced or startup-like environments.
- A bias toward action and comfort with ownership and accountability.
- Strong problem-solving ability and eagerness to work on hard, undefined problems.
- Excitement about being in the office daily — collaborating face-to-face with teammates in Seattle.
Why Join
At OpenAI, you won’t just write code — you’ll help shape how the world interacts with AI. You’ll work alongside researchers and product teams to transform cutting-edge models into products used by millions of people.
This is a unique opportunity to grow as an engineer, operate with true ownership, and help build technology that is redefining the future.
